Snowmobilers Take Advantage of Snow

Posted:

With 2.5 inches of fresh snow on the ground, a group of Siouxland snow lovers headed outside. Based out of Remsen, Iowa,  the Powder Players Snowmobile Club loves their machines and will take any opportunity to head into the great outdoors.

"Winter happens every year so either love it or hate it. If you've got a machine like this to go have fun on you might as well enjoy it," says club member Todd Ames.

For the Ames it's a family affair. The family along with 50 other Siouxland families make up the club.

"It's great to have a family sport like this that we can all be involved in and they enjoy it," says Ames.

The group travels 175 miles of clearly marked trail across Northwest Iowa. Of course the fun all depends on the snow.

"If we can get  another 4 to 6 inches of a little more moisturized snow on top of this then we'll be in good shape," says Taage Foreman, owner of Bob's Bike Shop in Le Mars and a Powder Player member.

It's a sport enjoyable for all ages but no matter how old you are or what your experience is, safety is key.

"Dress warm in layers and that type of thing. We definitely want people to wear helmets and all the protective gear that we feel is necessary," says member Bert Ullrich.

If you dress warmly you won't catch a cold but you might catch the snowmobile bug.

"It's gotten to be a sickness really," says Ames.

The Powder Players meet the first Wednesday of every month from November to March. For more information on the club click here or click here for snowmobile safety tips.
