Former Sioux City Mayor Grueskin Has Died

Posted:

A former Sioux City mayor has lost his battle with brain cancer. Reporter Samantha Suttle brings us with more on Earle Grueskin and his service to the city.

Earle Grueskin passed away at his home in Carlsbad, California, on Thursday. He served as mayor of Sioux City during the late 60s, as well as a Sioux City council member during that time. He also worked on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors during the 80s and 90s. Our sister station KMEG 14 interviewed Grueskin back in 1971 to find out his ideas for making Sioux City better.

"I imagine our greatest improvement if we could bring the government even closer to the people so that the people know that we're day and night we're working for their best interest so they maintain a good respect for the city staff and city employees. We have many of them and they're good hard workers," Earle Grueskin said in 1971.

Friends of Grueskin say they will miss such a genuine man.

"He was a really good guy who was devoted to this community, no question about that. He served in a lot of capacities but and he was one of those guys you never questioned his motives because he was always doing what he thought was best for the community," says Bob Scott, a longtime friend of Grueskin.

Grueskin left a lasting mark on Sioux City by helping to restore the Woodbury. He was 79 years old when he died.
