(SIOUX CENTER, IA) Towns in Northwest Iowa got about four inches of snow Thursday night and Friday morning. Plows were out before dawn trying to clear the roads.
A couple drivers said it was a little bit of a wake up call on those snowy roads.
"I didn't think we'd have a winter. I thought we'd go right to spring," said Carissa Brunemeier.
After Siouxland steered clear of the white stuff for months, this snow was a bit of slap in the face.
"Takes a little bit getting used to again. We haven't had to drive in much this winter, yet," said Helen Devries.
"I don't like to drive in this weather," said Brunemeier.
Iowa Department of Transportation was behind the wheel since 4:30 a.m. Friday morning.
The Sioux Center area of Northwest Iowa got about four and a half inches of snow. The top layer of snow was pretty light and fluffy, but once you dig a little deeper, it was pretty heavy.
"I hate shoveling but it's something I have to do," Brunemeier said.
Driving in that blanket of white is a reminder to everyone it is not the time to speed.
"I personally have to learn to slow down 'cause I usually am going a little faster than I should," Devries said.
"I've been covering between Le Mars and Sioux Center. They were pretty white this morning, but traffic's pretty much getting them blown off," said Ron Hargens an Iowa DOT snow plow driver.
Even if the roads appear clear and dry, you never know where you might hit a slippery spot.
"Drive defensively so you're watching out for the other guy as well as yourself," Devries said.
Hargens said he only saw one car in the ditch clearing the roads Friday.
